World-class architecture
The Danish architectural firm BIG has drawn the new Tirpitz museum. In the preserved dune landscape, behind the ancient canon bunker of World War II, the architects have created a spectacular museum hidden under the sand. Below the surface there are four large exhibition galleries as well as a café and a shop. An underground corridor connects the new attraction with the old war bunker.

Tirpitz bunker
The old bunker lies as a testimony to the widespread consequences of the Second World War. As a huge concrete block full of secrets, it calls on the narrow corridors to be discovered. Take a good friend in your hand and explore the dark bunks of the Second World War.
Tirpitz- defence position
In August 1944, the German occupying power began building the great Tirpitz position west of Blåvand. The two huge gun bunkers were part of the Atlantic Force and were to defend entry to Esbjerg. But the war ended before the bunkers were finished, and since then they have stood as cold testimonies about the war right in the west coast's magnificent dune landscape.
The bunker ruins have been a popular
museum, but it is now replaced by a brand new museum with four large galleries
with each exhibition.

The new museum consists of concrete, steel and glass. Concrete is cast on site like the old cannon bunker. Steel in black and gold like amber. The roof is planted with mare halm and integrates the museum completely naturally in the dune landscape.
