History Tours organizes sightseeing, city walks and events in Copenhagen and Elsinore. Walks out about different periods. On walking tours, participants are led into urban life and development in the period. Historian Christian Holm Donatzky tells about the city's appearance and townspeople. Participants get an insight into the different neighborhoods and buildings role in the history of Denmark.

History Tours Nyhavn

History Tours was started in 2003 by Christian Holm Donatzky who is a historian and guide on the trips. The idea behind the History Tours is to use the city tours, sightseeing and events into a live communication of Copenhagen's history which tells about the whole society. Here you will find all walks of life, and in Copenhagen, the national development left its mark.

The 15th century - Medieval Elsinore
In the 15th century the Danish kings rule over all of Scandinavia. Elsinore (Helsingør in Danish) becomes one of the largest cities in the kingdom after the introduction of the Sound Dues. The Hanseatic merchants are dominating the foreign trade. The walk focuses on the 15th century, but on the tour we trace the history of Elsinore from 1400 until today. You will hear about big trade, Shakespeare, Hamlet´s Castle, shipbuilding, and the present cultural city.

Group tours, quizzes and lectures on history and entrepreneurship arranged by appointment. Sightseeing can be custom designed according to your wishes, for example. in certain neighborhoods, as Østerbro, Vesterbro, Christianshavn, Frederiksberg or a historical harbor cruise or bike ride.

The period 1800-2016 - HC Andersen's Copenhagen
Copenhagen is a cultural centre, with Hans Christian Andersen striving to be recognised. The city is growing. The gates and the ramparts of the city are demolished. In this period democracy is introduced in Denmark and Copenhagen. Denmark is engaged in conflicts with big powers in Europe - Britain and Germany.

From Højbro Plads the tour goes through the quarter around Nikolaj Plads, where H.C. Andersen lived as a young man. We then walk by Christiansborg, home of the national democracy. We walk trough Rådhusstræde and pass the city court and former City Hall. We continue through Nørregade with the Cathedral of Our Lady. We walk through Studiestræde to Vester Voldgade. From here we can look towards Dagmarhus, the German headquarters during the occupation of Denmark. The tour ends at the statue of Hans Christian Andersen next to the City Hall.

The tour departs from Højbro Plads at the Absalon statue every Saturday at 10 am in August and September.

City walk last approximately 1½ hours. The price is 90 kr. Per person. Ordering is not required.
